Perhaps food tastes better when you know where it’s come from. For the last 30 years we’re been delighted to greet our local suppliers laden with goods they have grown or produced . Butter made with local milk, fresh morning sourdough bread, delicious meat from locally reared animals, vegetables fresh from the ground and local free range eggs with rich yellow yokes. Remember those?
We were very chuffed to receive an accolade from The British Cheese Awards. Low Sizergh Barn is one of only 200 shops & restaurants in the country to be highly recommended for a great selection of British cheese.
Since the farm shop opened in 1991 we have been an outlet for fully traceable meat from local farmers, game keepers and butchers.
Pride of place goes to Growing Well, the mental health charity based on the farm. Bags of mixed salad leaves from the polytunnels are an instant hit (especially in winter when Growing Well put spicy mizuna in the mix). There is a good range of organically grown fruit and vegetables from the local area and beyond, and local allotment growers and gardeners keep us stocked up in the summer months.
Drinks, the deli counter, preserves grocery – whatever you need for a full shop – picnic or dinner party, with lots of local flavours for your delectation.
The gallery windows in our café look down into the milking parlour – where else can you watch cows being milked while enjoying leaf tea and scrumptious scones?
The menu in the café is inspired by our farm: vegetable soups, hunks of quiche and farmer’s salads on chunky crockery. Join us for breakfast, for a meet-up brew or an afternoon treat.
Summer milkshakes and warming winter hot chocolates are a sure-fire hit with the kids, especially after a walk on the free farm trail.
The cows are milked daily from 3.30pm to 5pm.
