Owners Nick Ball and Jacob Sykes returned to the Ball’s family farm in Leicestershire in 2009 to start the poultry farming business after living in ‘Peck’em’, London– as a fashion designer and property developer respectively. Nick and Jacob’s keen interest in good food meant their aim was to produce something a bit different – a bird they were both happy to say was of the highest quality, of excellent flavour and succulence, and raised using compassion and farming standards comparable to Label Rouge chicken.

Fosse Meadows has grown and now resides on a Leicestershire County Council Farm in North Kilworth next to the Grand Union Canal.  The business has grown and maintained the Total Freedom principles and very slow-grown poultry using traditional and compassionate methods, to produce the very best bird using the highest welfare running around in grassy pastures.

The welfare of our birds is very important to us.  With that in mind there well-being through life to the point of slaughter is critical to our story.  In March 2021 we were approved by the Food Standards Authority as an approved EU poultry abattoir.  Having the birds killed on the farm reduces stress from travel to our birds and reduces food miles.  It also means that we are responsible for our birds until the point that you receive them.  We take that responsibility very seriously.
